For many years, trading has been dominated by bots. As payment and equity infrastructure moves to crypto rails, and advanced LLM models become accessible to the masses, we are seeing the rise of a new kind of bot, commonly known as AI Agents.

Keeping records of AI trading agents — their instructions, their payment authorisations, and their owners — will inevitably become part of mainstream financial infrastructure. The question is: how do we maintain a registry of AI Agents without exposing unnecessary information on-chain?

Using ERC-8004 (Trustless Agents) in conjunction with MIZUHIKI ID, we have deployed the first Agent Registry on the MIZUHIKI testnet, with an interface to check whether each AI Agent is owned by a KYC'd entity — in accordance with Japanese law.

Testnet Only

The Agent Registry is currently deployed on the Awaji testnet for development and testing. Do not register agents that control real funds.

How it works​

Each AI Agent is represented as an Agent NFT. The token records who owns the agent, the wallet it trades from, and the instructions that constrain its behaviour. The owner's address is checked against MIZUHIKI ID to confirm it belongs to a KYC'd entity.

  • Owner — the address that controls the agent. Its KYC status is verifiable through MIZUHIKI ID without revealing any personal information on-chain.
  • Agent NFT — a token (ERC-8004) holding the agent's identity and metadata.
  • Trading Wallet — the wallet the agent executes trades from.
  • Agent Instructions — the rules and authorisations that constrain what the agent may do (e.g. "Do not trade on sports.").

Why a registry?​

Track agent performance

Tying each agent to a stable on-chain identity lets owners keep a clear record of how their agents perform, and optimise accordingly.

Enable regulated, higher-quality products

By checking that an agent's owner is KYC'd, trading applications can limit access where required — making it possible to offer regulated and/or higher-quality trading products.

Privacy by design​

The registry is built so that ownership and KYC status can be verified without publishing the underlying personal data. MIZUHIKI ID proves an owner is a KYC'd entity on-chain while keeping their identity and on-chain linkage private — the same model used by the MIZUHIKI Verified SBT.
